Sveitsiske Rau kjem til Fossefestivalen med framsyninga Antigone in de Amazon. Med denne har han saman med urfolk, aktivistar og skodespelarar frå Brasil og Europa skapt ein politisk versjon av Antigone for det 21. hundreåret. Rau lagar framsyningane sine gjennom ei samanfletting av historier og politikk, som vev ulike lesingsnivå saman. På workshopen vil han fokusere på den kunstnarlege metoden sin og på prosess, omkontekstualisering av klassikarar, internasjonalt samarbeid og kunst som beredskap.
PASSAR FOR Workshopen er for profesjonelle på tvers av disiplinane. Skodespelarar, regissørar, scenografar, dramaturgar og studentar er velkomne.

I år tar Fossefestivalen pulsen på europeisk scenekunst i breiare forstand, og har henta inn nokre av dei fremste, mest nyskapande og originale framsyningane innan europeisk teater akkurat no. Det er eit skup at regissør og dramatikar Milo Rau, den politisk engasjerte leiaren av Wiener Festwochen, no gjer eit stopp på RESISTANCE NOW-turneen på Det Norske Teatret.
Rau er rabulisten i europeisk teater og meiner at kunst ikkje handlar om å skildre verda, men å endre henne. Han er blitt omtala som både den “mest påverknadsfulle”, “mest skandaløse” og “mest ambisiøse” europeiske regissøren i vår tid. Den anerkjente teaterregissøren har utvikla eit globalt program der han tar sikte på å kople saman kulturmenneske frå heile verda i ei delvis symbolsk, delvis praktisk handling av solidaritet og kulturell motstand mot autoritære krefter, isolasjonisme og sensur. RESISTANCE NOW! er så langt støtta av 200 kulturorganisasjonar i 50 land. Målet for kampanjen er eit samarbeid med EU om eit nytt juridisk rammeverk som tar sikte på å beskytte kultur og ytringsfridom: Den europeiske kulturfridomsloven.

The Swiss director Rau is coming to The International Fosse Festival DIFF with the performance Antigone in de Amazon. Together with Indigenous people, activists, and actors from Brazil and Europe, he has created a political version of Antigone for the 21st century. Rau develops his productions through a weaving together of stories and politics, intertwining different levels of interpretation. In the workshop, he will focus on his artistic method and process, the re-contextualization of classics, international collaboration, and art as a form of preparedness.
SUITABLE FOR The workshop is for professionals across disciplines. Actors, directors, set designers, dramaturgs, and students are welcome.

This year, the DIFF Festival takes the pulse of European performing arts in a broader sense, presenting some of the most innovative, original, and groundbreaking productions in European theatre today. It is quite a coup that director and playwright Milo Rau, the politically engaged head of the Wiener Festwochen, is making a stop on his RESISTANCE NOW tour at Det Norske Teatret.
Rau is the provocateur of European theatre, insisting that art is not about depicting the world, but about changing it. He has been described as the “most influential,” “most scandalous,” and “most ambitious” European director of our time. The acclaimed theatre-maker has developed a global program aiming to connect cultural practitioners from across the world in an action of solidarity and cultural resistance—partly symbolic, partly practical—against authoritarian forces, isolationism, and censorship. RESISTANCE NOW! is so far supported by 200 cultural organizations in 50 countries. The campaign’s goal is a collaboration with the EU on a new legal framework to protect culture and freedom of expression: The European Law of Cultural Freedom.
