Danse Macabre

«Vi er her i dag fordi vi er musikarar og kunstnarar. Det er veldig viktig for oss å vise støtte til og føle solidaritet med Ukraina. Det ukrainske folket blei offer for russisk aggresjon og motstandsheltar i same stund. For slavar kan ikkje overvinne frie menneske, og lyset sigrar alltid over mørkeret.»

Seks ukrainske kvinner i eksil står på scenen for å gi stemme til dei som er igjen heime, for at vi ikkje skal gløyme og for at dei sjølve skal overleve.

Det er seks av dei på scenen. Dei har flykta frå bombene i Kyiv. Dei mannlege kollegaene deira måtte bli igjen for å kjempe med gevær. Dei er seks kunstnarar, musikarar, skodespelarar - ukrainarar. Deira våpen er kunsten. Dei konfronterer publikum for å vise motstand, for å slåst, for å overleve. Dei fortel om krigen og den ubeskrivelege valden, om å forlate heimlandet sitt, om å leve i eksil og alt det ikkje finst ord for. Med styrke og sårbarheit, med punk og ukrainsk folklore.

Med Jobs bok i handa lagar dei ein vev av song, musikk og vitnesbyrd frå krigen. Dance Macabre er eit verk som fortel om den smerta som ligg bak nyheitene, som eit folk gjennomlever nett no. Ei mytisk, intim reise gjennom krigen som rasar nokre tusen kilometer unna oss. Eit djuptfølt ønske om å dele, skape samhald, fordømme, og kanskje også heile.

Dakh Daughters er eigentleg eit band som spelar musikk inspirert av punk og ukrainsk folkemusikk.

Med kunst som våpen

Bak Dance Macabre står Dakh Daughters og regissør Vlad Troitskyi, som flaug frå hovudstaden Kyiv i Ukraina til Frankrike i mars 2022 og fekk opphald ved Centre Dramatique National de Normandie - CDN de Vire. Dei kjente eit behov for å lage eit musikalsk og teatralsk prosjekt så raskt som mogleg. Framsyninga fekk premiere ved Odéon Teatret i Paris i juni, og har sidan spelt ved andre teater i Frankrike, Georgia og Luxemburg.

Macabre Dance

There are six of them on stage. Six women artists, musicians, actors, Ukrainians. They face us. To resist, fight, and continue to live, they recount the war and its nameless violence, the uprooting from their land, the exile, and the unspeakable. With strength and vulnerability, they tirelessly replay their departure and arrival, giving voice to those who remained behind. Guided by the words of the Book of Job, woven with songs and music, testimonies, and accounts of the war, Macabre Dance is a work imbued with the absolute urgency of the present time, of the unleashed news.

Art as their weapon

At the beginning of March 2022, the Dakh Daughters and Vlad Troitskyi fled their country and took refuge in France, at the CDN de Vire. The need to create a theatrical and musical project as soon as possible, to confront the situation through creation, became apparent. Macabre Dance takes us on a frontal, intimate and mythical journey through what is raging a few thousand kilometers from home. A vertiginous dive into the war and its ravages which encourages mobilization, union, and the ardent defense of peace. A show that makes the stage what it is, a precious and unique space to gather, to share, to denounce and perhaps even to heal.
